Remember the Earth

Over the last couple of weeks I have been clearing some of the property in preparation of the Yurt Site as well as taking out the Scotchbroom that has taken over areas that once had vibrant regrowth happening. We are turning at least an acre throughout the property into an herb and local plant walk as well as fairy garden. Visitors will be able to identify local plants through markers placed next to plants. Traditional and medicinal use will also be included.

When we created Moonglow, the property we chose had recently been logged. There were large areas that were clearcut although some trees still remained around the edges in key spots. Over time it has regrown with Salal, Hemlock and Fir, many types of wildflowers and berries, and many other sorts of plant life. But Scotchbroom is an invasive species that takes over wherever it gets a start. It has deep roots that are hard to get out, and they can grow the size of small trees. To make it worse as soon as you get rid of it, the seeds that it leaves will grow many more. It is important to stay on top of it. Because of time issues I could not keep up and so now I am tasked with removing large sections of it, revealing the natural plants struggling underneath. But as I cut, pulled and hauled the Scotchbroom away, I kept getting the message to ensure that I did some healing where I cut out any plants as well as where I had to walk to get it all out. Even though the Scotchbroom was considered a weed, it was still alive and did create places of shade and homes for some of the many creatures found here in the northwest. Throughout the process I made sure to cover the area with Reiki, helping to heal where I had been. Come spring the natural plants will grow and flourish and even more healing will take place. But it is important to remember that any yard work or clearing should be followed by an intention of healing to take place. We may not be sensitive to the changes that occur as we create our reality, but at least we can minimized the trauma through blessing the earth, sending Reiki or other types of Energy healing, or intentioning healing where the changes occurred. You will find the energy of your space will be more tranquil, and your plants will grow more fully. Remember, the earth and all its inhabitants are alive, and subtle energies surround us all.
